LAPLAP FAMILY HISTORY 200 YEARS AGO and BEYOND

Well as far as I know from the accounts of my father, in the late 19th century there were 3 known Laplap brothers from Cabalian, Southern Leyte who were heirs of farmlands. They are VICENTE, the patriarch of the clans of Cabalian, Hinunangan, Cebu and Mindanao. GREGORIO, is the patriarch of the clans from Cabalian, Luzon/Manila and JOSE, the patriarch of Cabalian and Cagayan De Oro/Iligan. These brothers, though heirs of lands, still migrated to other places to find greener pastures and new adventures in life.

Also, Tito Philbert 'Butch' Laplap told me that there are Laplap families and a ancestral house in ANTIQUE. Update on Antique Clan: my cousin (who is also from Antique) from my mother side confirmed that in San Jose, Antique there are Laplap families. I'm now searching the net for possible links to communicate with them.

And in my pursuit of deeper research to find our roots, I stumbled upon these new discoveries with the help of modern technology.

EARLIEST KNOWN RECORDS...
It was found in the 1800 US Federal Census and the Alabama Census 1810-90. Though I can't provide scanned docs and pictures because I don't have a full access on ancestry.com (pls help find more information on these names, if someone who has full access on ancestry.com pls provide me records, pictures and their history)

Filipino Immigration to the United States

Some Filipino immigrants arrived in the United States as early as the mid- 1700s, but most immigrants came after 1900. Changes in U.S. agricultural techniques on the West Coast and in Hawaii created a high demand for labor. While persons from many countries were recruited to work in Hawaiian sugarcane plantations, Filipinos were the best source of labor because the Philippines was under U.S. administration for the first few decades of the twentieth- century. Between 1900 and 1930 over 63,000 Filipinos immigrated to Hawaii and over 45,000 Filipinos immigrated to the mainland.

A February 28, 1800, act provided for the taking of the second census of the United States, which included the states and territories northwest of the Ohio River and Mississippi Territory. The guidelines for the 1800 enumeration followed those of the first enumeration, except that the work was to be carried on under the direction of the Secretary of State. The enumeration was to begin, as in 1790, on the first Monday in August, and conclude in 9 calendar months.

There's a possibility that he was born in the late 1700's
and he might be one of those first Pinoys to migrate to the
U.S. mainland in mid 1700's.

 By Boyet H. Laplap

He is our great great grandfather who married a teacher from Da Mortiz, Pangasinan. He met Isabel Mortera in Cabalian while she is teaching in a local elementary school during the early years of the American rule. He farmed in Cabalian until his death. They have four siblings, DEOGRACIAS (b.1896) the eldest, CIRIACO (b. 1898), ANATALIO (b. July 4, 1900-d. Sept.4,.1963) and FELISA (b.1902).

Two elder sons of Gregorio bear the Mortera surname, Deogracias and Ciriaco. They use their mother's surname because at that time Gregorio and Isabel was not yet married. Only Anatalio (w/c is my namesake and great great granpa) and Felisa bear the Laplap surname.

DEOGRACIAS 'Garay' MORTERA He lived in Cabalian most of his life and cultivated his inherited land. Lolo Garay got married and was blessed with four sons and one daughter.

CIRIACO 'Kakoy' MORTERA He and Anatalio tried their luck in Manila in the early 1900?s. they worked as porter at the pier and sidelined as shoe shine boys. He is assigned as range finder in one of the biggest guns of Corregidor. He met Maria Casora in Cavite City. Maria is a native of Surigao City. They got married and have three children, RICARDO, RODOLFO and JULIETA ( who died at a young age). Ricardo married to Josefina Bungcaras of Cabalian. They were blessed with one daughter ISABELITA. The second child, Rodolfo was married to Narcisa Batud of Hinunangan. They have three siblings but only one lived and the is my father, GREGORIO. Greg married Irene Andales Hongco (+) of Negros Occidental. They have four children ANATALIO II, JEROME GREGORY (+), ANGELICA and RODOLFO (b.6/1/79 d. 6/28/01). Greg, have two sons in his second marriage, RAMFRED and BRYAN (+). I married Anicia Dela Vega of Mandaluyong. We have a daughter by the name of ANYZZA NICOLE, the 6th generation of the Gregorio Laplap Clan..

FELICIANA 'Iling' LAPLAP She and her mother Isabel went to Cavite City when Anatalio was already a member of the Philippine Scout. She met Teodorico N. VICENTE LAPLAP LINEAGE HISTORY
 by Ray Florentino Laplap

These are some of the things I can input about the clan.

My great grandfather is Vicente Laplap. He had five children I think. Rufino ' Pinoy' Laplap, the eldest son migrated to Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte. My father knew all his children. One of his children I met was Uncle Pepe. Then there is Vicente Laplap, a lawyer in Kolambugan. Lolo Pinoy has a daughter who is a doctor I think residing in Ozamiz City and another daughter who is married to a member of Abijay family in Iligan. I met two of Lolo Pinoy's grandchildren. I met Angela Aquino Laplap while I was attending school at Silliman Univ in mid 70's, and Panky Laplap Abijay, a de la Salle football varsity who I met here in Brunei while playing football in the mid 90's. Most of Lolo Pinoy's descendants are living in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte. There are also Laplap families in Tubod, Lanao, but I'm not sure whether they are connected to Lolo Pinoy's clan. Vicente's second son was my grandfather, Florentino Laplap. My grandfather was married to Emeliana Ouano of Mandaue City, Cebu. They only had one son and that was my father. My father's name is Arcipiades (Cades) Laplap. He is married to Visitacion Uy Garrido. My mum and dad are both retired public school teachers. They have two children, being myself and my younger brother Lou Bienvenido, a civil engineer. He is married to Reorita Sanchez Pilpa, a dentist of Baybay, Leyte. They have four children, Ann, Carla, Chek and Ryan. My grandfather had four other children on his next marriage. They are Caridad (deceased), Crisostomo A., Teresita and Basilisa. All the children are residing in Surigao City and are all married. The next child I knew was Lola Puli. She had three children, Celing Paco, Akyot Laplap and Mami Cordovez(Deceased). These three families are all living in Cabalian, but some of their children and grandchildren are living elsewhere. I can't account for all of them because they are all big families. Vicente had another son who was a guerilla during the second world war. His name was Leonilo Laplap (died just after the war). He married to Tinang Deluta of Hinunangan, Southern Leyte. They had one son, Sergio Laplap. Tiyo Sergio married to Carlie Esclamado of Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte. They had three childlren, Leonilo, Teting and Ethyl. Tiyo Sergio was a political figure in his town in the eighties and early nineties. Unfortunately he was gunned down in Maasin, So. Leyte by an unknown assailant during the hotly contested election sometime in the early nineties. His son Leonilo is residing in Hinungangan, I'm not sure of his brother's whereabout, while Ethyl is in the states. Tiya Carle is now residing in Las Vegas. The youngest son of Vicente was Lolo Dodo. He married to Querina Agan of Larena, Siquijor. They had no children. Both of them are deceased.
